Advice on Picking a class
Someone asked me which class they should pick based on what would help the guild most. This was the advice I gave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- 1st - pick a class you think will be fun, an active player is best
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My main - lessigfan - is an inquisitor, and I really like it because it has melee, magic, great spirit damage, banes, and some summons. I love my warden, it has purge, auras, projection, and good melee. I really want to do a summoner, they look fun. I've found DKs, pyros, slayers, assassins are boring, but lots of people have made great builds with every class, and enjoyed playing competitively.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- 2nd - pick a strong class, the better you are, the more you'll help the guild
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Judged by PvP ratings for those over level 40, here are the T3 classes ranked best to worst:
1. inquisitor
2. berserker
3. warlord
4. deathknight
5. pyromaniac
6. warden
7. champion
8. summoner
9. assassin
10. hierarch
11. slayer
12. paladin
Once you've picked your top class, let me know, and I can give you some advice on which path to take, and which stats to work on. With some classes, either path works. With other classes, you're shooting yourself in the foot if you go down one path v. another.
If you want to try out a class before going for it, let me know. Howie, myself, or someone will have a character they'll let you try one out. You're definitely welcome to try any of my characters.

Which path is best for Summoner? I was originally planning on Fighter/Wizard, but lately I've been thinking maybe Recruit/Cleric would be better. Maybe a strong defence is necessary to stay alive while summons and banes stack up?

Since all of fighter/recruit/wizard/cleric charms will be useless for you as soon as you start using summons gears + stats wise you want to do pow = con > int >>>>> dex, which both paths allow, it totally doesn't matter which path you take.

This is a really good thread from the Estiah forums. There is one for all classes if you wanted to read more. The biggest thing for ALL characters is to max out (farm) your health and spirit as you level.

Wardens are awesome. They can do aura projection/magic, cpb magic (ice spikes + frozen grave shortdeck), tank, debuffs, and manage melee with spears. Purge in ice tomb is gorgeous, especially since it doesn't come with self purge. I really enjoy mine, it is a great class.

Yeah! I'm learning some new stuff, and as far as I know, it seems really fun! Can I ask you what are the skills I should use/max to have a nice warden? (I chose int as 3rd stat).

Re: Advice on Picking a class
You will eventually use and max all of the skills. A few are actually required, see the warden class page here, there rest will be needed so that you can use certain charms or just to get the skill points.
