Plans for Class Specialization? Empty Plans for Class Specialization?

Post by lessigfan November 12th 2009, 11:40 pm

I'm planning to go Fighter > Wizard > Inquisitor, which is dexterity & power. I figure we'll have lots of death knights and berserkers, so I want to do something a bit different - to get a little variety in the guild. I think I'll have my alt go for Warden, that sounds like it'd be handy in a big battle, almost as much as a warlord.

What are you guys thinking of doing?

If we are going to be doing alot of guild battles (as in group battles) then we should have some ppl become assassins aswell...i heard that they are killers when it comes to group battles

So, for my new guys, I'm planning on:
Faeyn: Scout > Shaman > Inquisitor (mmm, banes and spirit)

Faeyl: I'm a bit up in the air on this one. I would very much like to make a dex/con build so I can use magic CPB with icespikes, but I don't really like the looks of wardens. That leaves me with the option of assassin, slayer (not really something I'm very tempted by) or warlord.
I'm definitely tempted to try assassin. They're extremely good in GvG and good one on one as well since they have a lot of strong EA charms. Assassin has the downside of needing to balance pow and con.
Warlords would be the easiest extension. They have good melee, decent group charms and dex/con for their primary stats so I could build magic cpb pretty easily and still have the option to go melee if need be.

What do you guys think?
Scout > Rouge > Assassin with dex/int/pow/con in that order or
Recruit > Guard > Warlord with con/dex/pow/int?

I don't know, do whatever you think will be fun. Warlord seems a lot like paladin to me - armor/ward, projection, protect - but if you want to go that way to use ice spikes, warlord is going to be easier.

Assassins may be a little stronger in GvG - the "target lowest health" is pretty awesome, but don't pick your class for guild fights.

Don't do a dex pally sinman. Go for power as your third highest stat.
Dex gives you spears, which are decent, but pow gives you axes, summons and spirit, which is much better.

I'm pretty much stat independent so far, I haven't really been doing any jobs for stat points, just been doing skills lately. I'll make sure to build up my power a bit more, thanks

Reading the forums, it seems like pallys are pretty much unanimously regarded as the weakest class ATM if that makes any difference to you.

After doing a bunch of reading, I think I'm going to take Faeyl down the road to slayer. Slayer's seem like a really nice class if you use them right and he can easily team up with my future inquisitor to make a badass spirit squad. True sight (purge!) in a spirit squad is just brutal.

Deathknights look pretty weak too. They're like the jacks of all trades, some spirit, some damage over time, some melee, some debuff, some armor. Heirarchs also look crappy for anything except guild battles.

Dunno, deathknights, spirit wise they are a bit weakers than inquisitors but they can pull out melee cpb just fine imo. Hierarch is a total nightmare for any spirit strat and thanks to mind radiance (115 (50%p) (and it might be 5 separate hits for 23 - not sure)) they shouldnt be too bad in 1v1 either, definitely good compared to assasin/slayer who got like absolutely nothing for 1v1).

At high level, slayers can do quite well in 1v1. Their normalize charms can really wreck most burst/CPB strategies (especially if paired with spirit) and they can also do effective burst themselves by stealing mods off their opponents and using shifting to maximize their damage output.

The normalization is self so its a penalty, but yeah, I didnt notice the "steal all damage modifiers". Still shifting is really bad - afaik it doesnt take your ongoing modifiers into account so for example if your opponent gets 10 armor and 0 ward, all your attacks will be magic even if you have +100 melee ongoing. Yea, against CPB they are probably playable but neither spirit nor projections use any modifiers so I really see nothing there...

All shifting attacks i've used take the modifiers + armor/ward into account and is which ever does the most damage after those are added/subtracted.

I stand corrected, apparently they fixed it since the last time I checked (ok that was quite a while ago...).

Still, if someone puts up 100 armor (spears anyone?) and 0 ward, even if you have stolen +30melee ongoing and +0magic ongoing it will always be magic which isnt exactly what you would want to do.

Sure, but spears don't really do no-ongoing buffs anyway. Energy bloom
is way better against pyros and berserkers - people who run burst
decks. The main advantage that I can see to the normalize charms is in
a spirit deck to take away other people's buffs so you can last longer
to kill them with spirit. It can work well in a deck with fists and the
EA aura charm as well since you don't need to run CPB to get your
damage output with that kind of setup.
