It was to get rid of the -300 next so that I could deal damage more often. Your taking the 20 bane regardless, it just just if it's spread out or not and if you get to deal damage in return.
Basically, it was what I had to do due to the lack of lightning/shifting charms.

Rapier is an EA so the bane is extended 1 turn, it's extra damage that you take. Also, you forgot to include Blazing Inferno, a guaranteed 70 damage.

It only took 100 AP once, most of the time I clear it in one to three tries with my setup.
