here's the defense gear my level 23 uses:

Seems to work pretty well. He's 5-1 on defense this week.

I'm sure you know, but the deck you set as defensive is just the one you fight attackers with. You want to put your strongest deck as defensive - whether that's a spirit turtle setup, magic/magic cpb, or something else.

If you're just playing defensive runes, and no spirit, odds are you're going to lose just about all of them.

Wait...you're level 28 and you're using that gear? That's like a not-as-good version of the gear my level 22 uses. Update to gear that's at your level.
(also, farm some HP and spirit, my characters are 5-6 levels below you and have more HP and spirit).

I have stopped at every market and this was the best gear I could get.

Also is there a section on farming HP and Spirit?

Have you done the Tablet hunter quest yet? If not, you should get right on that. Takes about a week, but at your level it should be a piece of cake. Gives +2 to all stats and +25HP. https://duel.canadian-forum.com/estiah-f69/tablet-seeker-quest-t4081.htm

Also, make sure you're gathering and finding exploration sites and clearing them as often as possible. Treasure hunter is a great skill and the drops from events can be used to craft some really good items and the explorer skill gives both HP and spirit.

It sounds like your making one of the mistakes i did, not crafting any weapons other than the PVP one. Make sure you look in the shops, and at time you need to take a few days to get items to craft what you want. Also Tabs advice was very good.

Right now you're doing too much armor/warding, too little spiriting. You're also completely wide open to the Scout Win Buttan-- EA, EA, BANE BANE BANE BANE BANE. The Helm and Scroll should help with that. You could also look into Dim Halo, Duelist Shoulderpads, and Luminous Ideas-- EA Ward, Armor, and Will, respectively, that can help ALOT. They do sting against the aforementioned Win Buttan . . .

OK, well even if you can't use stuff yet you need to put more spirit into your deck and less armor/ward. Also look in the showcase and see if there is anything in there that will improve your gear. You should also be able to use most of the spirit charms listed in Telamons post.

The good thing about the spirit turtle setup is that it doesn't require much in the way of attributes. A little pow and dex are really all you need. 144 dex/pow is all you need for the highest level spirit charm you can use at your level.

Hell, with your stats the way they are I'd suggest running a magic deck-- Overheat, Honor Shadow/Fire, Blue Dragon Bone, Luminous Ideas, etc. You can run decent fire charms, decent shadow charms, so I'd roll with that, if I were you.

The reason why I was doing these was I was getting out damaged, so I figured I would build up on Armor, and ward. I also noticed that spirit hasn't helped me, because I take too much damage that it doesn't last long enough to use Spirit

Gathering I started last week. I figured I would see what it was about and I really liked it. I am almost a master on Base Metals and Vital

I recommend picking one damage type and sticking with it. Either magic (fire/shadow) or melee (fists/swords/axes). If you mix damage types people who play defense will have an advantage against you.

This is absolutely key within a single deck. Not only those using defense will wipe out mixed decks, but if you're using constant power buffs, mixing damage types is going to hurt you against everyone (unless you're using dual damage type charms).

But don't specialize your character in a single damage type. I know someone who thought melee was better and only leveled melee skills. He did fine until he came to Sheypar the martyr. Whoops.

Yeah. You want to stick with just one type of damage-- If you're liking Melee, I'd suggest: Fury Potion, Night Cloak (!!! I still use that on my Assassin (l50) in Coliseums), Rapier, Honor Thrust if you can (Good guide for EAS: 1/3 eas. So if you have 30 charms, 10 EAs. 45 charms, 15 eas. It gets in the full blast of damage and usually doesn't dizzy you).

Triple-Edged Axe is handy at 29, if you can run it. Charged Fist does decent damage (and Cyneth is The Best Defender Farm you can imagine, if you don't have Defender/Leadership R2, GET IT THERE ).
